Welcome to the HIA Interim Advocate website
The appointment of the HIA Interim Advocate was announced by David Sterling (Head of the Civil Service) on 2 July 2019. He is Brendan McAllister.
The HIA Interim Advocate is independent of government. He will be the advocate and voice for victims and survivors of the Historical Institutional Abuse and will seek to:
- Advocate on behalf of victims and survivors during the passage of legislative proposals;
- Work with service providers to ensure the needs of victims and survivors are both known and emphasised;
- Reach out to victims and survivors in other jurisdictions; and
- Be a channel of communication to the sector.
